Long Time No Type...
Apr. 21st, 2008 03:15 amThis poor, poor journal. A remnant of old fandom days that seem so far away now, created at the bitter end of a lot of things and yet the memory keeps creeping back closer...
Seriously, there's going to be a second XF movie. Due out in late July, and here it is April. Which is still a bit mind boggling as only two months ago it appeared--finally, tangibly--as confirmed and greenlighted for "coming soon." I have long dropped off the XF radar and the forums and only a lack of time and old apprehensions keep me from diving back in now.
Though for those same reasons I've held back on totally immersing myself into DW online communities. It always bothered me that I never seemed to bring XF to a close with all the chaos of S8&9 and 2001-2003. The fandom itself remained in limbo and debate years beyond the end. And then as I started to change, as sharing the experience of whatever genre shifted from virtual to real life, secretive to out-loud, I just let the past go quietly. The frantic focus calmed.
Breathe. Start again.
And eventually in a new year: a new fandom, new excitement, new joy. A little older, a little wiser, and with an open heart and mind and a willingness to laugh at myself in it. : )
So now, with a mind wandering between memory and a different perspective, it is a little strange--but also intriguing.
Every new thing I read or see plays out twice--what did it mean then, what could it mean now? In the photos off IMDB, I immediately recognize the old look, the posing, (the trenchcoats!) but I also see the difference of time, from faces to computer to office, in small details that bring it to date, and back alive. And that is what is exciting, what I hope for, even as I seem so far away from the old.
